Life is short, right? So, why not take a few shortcuts?
These five shortcuts are a great way for you to begin
getting organized quickly and effectively.
- Shower power. Keep a sponge and some cleaner on a shelf
in the shower so they're always easily accessible. Strip off
your clothes. Then, wash the shower walls and inner door
while you're in it. Since you won't be dressed while you're
cleaning, you can do a very thorough and quick job without
worrying about getting your clothes wet. When you're done
cleaning, take a shower. Afterwards, dry yourself and then
dry the shower out with your bath towel.
- Use a bag cave. Always keep a paper bag on your counter
while you're preparing food. Open it up and lay it on its
side, so it forms a cave. As you're cutting up meats, produce, etc., immediately toss scraps into the paper bag.
When you're done preparing, just grab the bag, close it and
toss it in the trash--no additional cleaning necessary.
- Multi-task your exercise activities. Do at least one
thing each day that involves some sort of physical activity,
without taking up extra time. For instance, when you bring
your kids to the park, run around with them, or do some
squats while they're using the play equipment. Perhaps go
for a walk with your spouse or a friend after dinner, while
discussing your goals or your upcoming vacation. Do some
sit ups during commercials while you're watching your
favorite television programs.
- Who needs the top sheet anyway? If you have to straighten
out a top bed sheet every time you have to make the bed, you
may be wasting time. Just a fitted sheet, topped with a
duvet cover or comforter may be all you need for a
comfortable sleep in the evening. In the morning after you
get up, just quickly lay the cover or comforter on top, with
minimal fussing.
- Company is coming for dinner. Instead of fretting over
how you're going to get the entire house cleaned up before
your dinner guests arrive, concentrate on those areas that
really make a difference. Remove any clutter piles that are
sure to make your house look messy--put them in a closet or
your basement until your guests are gone. Wipe any really
evident smudges from mirrors and stainless steel appliances,
wipe down the guest bathroom with a few disposable wipes and
turn the main room lights down a bit so any leftover dust
goes unnoticed. As a final touch, bake some bread--even if
it's the kind you get in the supermarket freezer section--
to add a wonderful aroma to your home.
