The Recession Affects Everyone - Except Krispy Kreme
By Christina | June 14, 2009
At an time when companies like Bennigans and Linen’s n Things, Circuit City and more are having to close shop because of a depressed market, it seems we still crave fatty emotional eating favorites - Krispy Kreme turned a $1.9 million dollar profit in the last quarter! Not too shabby, except for the fact that doughnuts are horribly unhealthy.
What this says to me is if we have just a few discretionary dollars we are using them to further our obesity crisis which further causes loss of work productivity and cripples an already devastated health care system. Is it me or does this all seem WRONG?
One original glazed doughnut has 200 calories and 12 grams of fat along with low fiber and low protein this is one smack to pass on. How many of us only eat one doughnut or the plain glazed version? I am thinking more of us eat the custard filled variety which weighs in at 300 calories and 16 grams of fat. That’s just one measley doughnut. I don’t know about you but if I am hungry, one doughnut is not the equivalent of a Snickers - you know, Snickers really satisfies? Not so much, one doughnut just leads me to the next!
