Burn A LOT of Calories without Impact to the Knees!
By Christina | June 7, 2009
Want a workout that will help you to lose weight, tone your legs, and might even be fun?
Spinning or indoor cycling has been around for years and the reason this format is as popular today as it was in 1999 when I started leading these classes is because people still feel spinning gives the best results. Classes are organized to challenge and push participants while providing a fun and positive environment.
Research has shown that during a 30 minute spinning class you can burn up to 500 calories. I don’t think there are many low impact exercises out there that can boast those numbers. If you are able to really push yourself the number of calories burned can even go higher. Indoor cycling is also a great cardio exercise because you can stick with it year round. It is not affected by weather or other adverse conditions you may find when exercising outdoors.
Some of the benefits to indoor cycling are weight loss, cardiovascular, and muscle building. Another positive aspect of Spinning is that all levels can ride together. Additionally, it is no impact by nature so your feet and knees won’t hurt. This makes indoor cycling a great workout for people of all ages, even older adults with joint problems. The benefits continue - Spinning increases lung capacity and cardiovascular health. As if that was not enough spinning tones your thighs, calfs, hips, butt, and core.
