Belly Dance Your Way Fit

I have been working out for a billion years but have yet to try a belly dance class. I have watched, giggled, swore to never attend a class, but never actually shimmied.

 

Currently at a fitness conference I had the opportunity to speak to a few ladies who attended a belly dance class and what they loved about the experience was the total integration of every muscle.  The said that while dancing through the hour-long session they didn’t just move parts of their bodies, but the entire body.

 

The neck moves, the shoulders, the chest and the diaphragm lifts all in sync. The pelvis goes up and down and it’s easy for the joints and yet it’s very energetic and very aerobic.

A single belly dance session works hundreds of muscles, burns calories and helps to de-stress.

 

Belly dancing has come out emerged as one of the hot new workout trends in recent years, according to the American Council on Exercise, ACE, which says belly dancing and other dances have evolved from the traditional concepts to standard Group Exercise classes. 

I still won’t be belly dancing anytime soon but it’s good to know that if I do, I will be getting a workout as well!
