My opinion on the P90X

By Christina | April 21, 2009

Today I received my P90X DVD set. I have been seeing the infomercial for quite some time and have thought about buying this for myself mainly just for the ideas that I will get from the gagillion DVD set (I think it’s 8.)  I was so excited to try the plyometrics DVD that I called a friend and we met to “take the challenge” together.

The DVD starts with a warning that this is an extreme workout and if you are not in great shape, take it easy, drink water, take breaks - you get the picture.  The warm up is 10 minutes. Okay, I thought that was a bit much but this is marketed to main stream America so I get the need to be safe and properly warm people up.

Where I started to get a bad vibe was the humor and the lack of intensity I was feeling from the workout. I guess that’s what happens when you have too high of an expectation, it cannot go anywhere but down. Half way through the actual workout I realized there is constant repetition of the exercises. He does the same thing over and over and then takes far too many water breaks. Again, I get the whole safety thing but people can stop or pause the DVD player if they need a break. The beauty of anaerobic exercise is when you need to stop, you will stop.

Anyhow, I will see the remaining DVD’s and it had some good exercises but I thought this was going to be the end all be all of the workout DVD’s.  I ordered True Power Yoga so let’s see how that one goes.
