Some new, different weight loss tips

By Christina | April 4, 2009

Looking for some tips you haven’t already heard to help you lose weight?  I know I always am although admittedly I am looking for the “eat cheeseburgers and French fries followed by a hot fudge sundae and whittle your waist” diet.  I will surely advise you when that happens. Until then, here are three tips you may not have heard:

Photograph Your Meal: Tell you Mozzarella to say “Cheese!” Taking a picture of your meals can help you to reduce your size. Dieters who kept a picture diary of everything they ate for a five consecutive day period reported eating fewer snacks and being less likely to go back for second servings. This was compared to simply keeping a food diary, which by the way has been shown to be an effective weight loss tool. (Study was conducted at the University of Wisconsin at Madison).

In addition to just taking the pictures, assess your nutrition. Are you incorporating all colors into your meals? You want to see plenty of green and not so much white – they are typically the breads, rice, potatoes which are not great if you are looking to shed pounds.

Ready, Set, Peel: Bananas are rich in potassium to the tune of 422 mg per banana. This potassium will help to control the amount of sodium making its way into your system.

Take Your Vitamin C: Okay, it’s good for colds but for flat abs? Research has found that foods that are naturally rich in vitamin C, for example, citrus such as cantaloupe, oranges and red peppers, can aid in the reduction of fat absorbed in the body. Skip Vitamin C and you may actually see your waistline expand since diets low in vitamin C have been linked to bigger waistlines. You need a daily dose of 75 milligrams which you can easily manage by snacking on an orange or a cup of strawberries.
