Charles Barkley’s thoughts on Michael Phelps
By Christina | March 18, 2009
I have always liked Charles Barley, former NBA player. He was an amazing player and had a no-nonsense attitude whenever he spoke. He was not the sweet, soft spoke Jordan but neither was he the “worm” Rodman. His character fell in between. Today, he gave an interview on CNN and when asked about the Michael Phelps pot debacle and that Phelps is a role model he replied:
Even as a professional athlete, he always took offense when someone referred to him as a role model for their children. “I am nobody’s role model. Parents are the role models for their children, not me.” On people being offended by Michael Phelps taking a toke, he said “only perfect people seem to be offended by others’ actions. People who take offense by other people they don’t even know put themselves higher than that person. I don’t respect people who have never made a mistake and who sit in judgment of others.”
In my own personal life I often experience judgments for who I am and how I speak or act and honestly it is unfair and mean spirited. If only people could come down from their pedestals and realize all are human, all err, and all deserve to be left in peace!
