Medicine Ball Exercises
By Christina | February 13, 2009
The medicine ball is a versatile tool which although not great for traveling because it is not compact nor is it easy to carry anywhere you go, it does add a dimension to your workouts that no other fitness tool can add. Here are some medicine ball exercises for you to incorporate into your workouts, after consulting your doctor to make sure you are cleared for a workout.
- Single leg chops – Standing on the right leg, ball over right shoulder perform a chop motion downwards to the left while transferring weight to the left foot and lifting the right leg. Repeat.
- Figure eights – hold the medicine ball high over your left shoulder and trace an imaginary figure eight as large as you can. Be sure to lift the ball high and lower the ball low, bend your knees.
- Lunge crossovers – Stand in lunge position, front thigh parallel to floor. Hold legs there, lift medicine high in the air over head and lower ball to outside of right thigh, lift ball now lower to outside of left thigh. Repeat with the other leg in front.
- Russian twists – Hold ball close to shoulder height. Forcefully swing ball side to side using your core to stop the motion.
- Medicine Ball Obliques –Lie on your back, place the ball between your knees and twist side to side.
- Reverse curls – Lie on your back, place ball between knees and lift and lower legs to floor.
