My Favorite Reasons People Don’t Workout
By Christina | December 3, 2008
I spend a lot of time writing these posts to help people with information, education, motivation and ideas for their fitness routines. I decided to take a departure from my usual format and write the reasons people don’t want to workout. Maybe, if I can shed light on how silly some of these excuses are and that your health should be more important than your excuses, perhaps someone, somewhere will chose wellness over laziness. Here they are, the top reasons NOT to workout today:
- You are TIRED. Maybe beat is a better description for how you feel. You just want to sleep and after all isn’t sleep the opposite of exercise? Clearly then, go sleep and maybe tomorrow you will be more energized and alert; as the saying goes: Be alert, the world needs more lerts.
- I have children to care for, duh. Ah yes, that’s a great reason not to get active. Children love to just sit idle for hours and contemplate the many mysteries of life. In fact my children regularly recite poetry to me as we sit in the field of lilies. Really? Children love to play and run and jump and hide. Here’s a thought, today after work take the kids to the park and PLAY!
- I have priorities in life. That is a good one, I must admit, but are they really priorities or excuses? Are you rushing home to clean the house and watch BIggest Loser or are you truly in need of the time you have for important tasks that just cannot wait? Your health is a priority!
- I can’t afford the gym, we are in a recession. Yes that’s true, gyms are expensive but no one said you had to exercise in a pricey spa environment, your local Y is probably not too bad and oh, here’s a thought, grab some sneakers and hit the road.
- Execise is BOOOORING. Got me there, it’s true, there is only one type of exercise and it’s no fun at all. Now, if you could chose from working out with a friend or maybe if there were classes or even DVD’s with Yoga, Pilates, Boot Camps, something, now that would be all right!
