How do I eat healthy at a party
By Christina | November 22, 2008
My daughter turned one this week and yesterday we celebrated her big day. True to party fashion there were chips-n-dip, cake, pastries, beer and wine, and sandwiches. So, how do you eat healthy at these functions when there is so much food that clearly will sabotage your efforts?
Well, first of all and in my defense, there was fruit which NO ONE touched, but it was there. There was also water and diet soda, along with fruit juice pouches for the children. There are however things you can do to stay the course when you are out celebrating with friends and family:
- Eat before you attend a party or gathering so that you are less tempted to eat everything you see
- Drink plenty of water so reduce your possibly misread body’s hunger signals - often thirst is masked as hunger
- Look for the healthiest options and choose those to start with
- Drink just one alcoholic beverage if you really want one and then stick to water
- Three bite rule for cake or other dessert - self explanatroy - just have 3 bites!
