Too much exercise? How much is that?
By Christina | November 21, 2008
This is a topic that really interests me because I workout a lot by most people’s standards. Hmm, most people, is that most who are ”in shape fitness enthusiasts” or regular people who cringe at the thought of lacing up their sneakers?
I did some research to see what the experts say, medical and fitness experts, not fast food taste tester experts and here is what I found:
We were made to move.. a lot. Think back to caveman days and how the body was used. There were no Blackberries, no lap tops, no X-Box, no cell phones, heck, no cars. We MOVED all day long in the search for warmth, food, fire wood, new homestead, to discover the country, the world; you get the picture, we were active. We sit idle for 8 hours a day in an office and no one ever says, whew, get up and move Suzy you’re too productive! No, we prefer to see someone sit still and work versus get up and move.
We have hopefully all heard and know that moving and exercising helps children with mental functioning and that people who exercise are actually better able to use their brains and have them respond as they should so why not exercise?
There is research that supports the more is better theory and in fact states that the more you can exercise the better it is for you. Two hours a day still does not combat the habits we have the other 22 hours a day. Think about it, there are plenty of people out there who do workout two hours a day and are still not in shape. The AMA (American Medical Association) recently published an article stating the benefits we receive from cardiovascular exercise continue to increase with more and more activity and that the benefits do not slow or slow down because we do more and more.
All of this said, there can be too much. If you are not spending time with your family, not getting your work done, forgoing sleep for exercise then maybe you need to consider what is missing in your life that drives you away and keeps you trying to fill the void with other activities.
