Aqua fitness is not just swimming and Aquasize..
By Christina | October 14, 2008
When I think about aqua exercise, I think about the standard aqua workouts you see in the health clubs; a group of people in waist to shoulder deep water being led by an instructor through a series of cardio and strength exercises getting in shape. I also picture lap swimmers going back and forth and back and forth and… Okay, I don’t love swimming laps.Â
However, that’s not the extent of aqua fitness and perhaps there are many of you out there who love the outdoors and being in the water but, like me, you hate swimming alone in a straight line for what seems to be an eternal quest for a set number of wall touch and turns.Â
In addition to the above, there are also water sports that can be used to help build the body and you may find them more fun. Sports such as water polo, water soccer, and water volleyball, can be competitive and satisfy your need for social wellness at the same time.  They are also excellent for building muscle. One great benefit to aqua fitness is that it tends to use the whole body as you train and exercise unlike other activities such as indoor cycling which focus on the legs.
