Help, I sweat more than anyone else at the gym!
By Christina | September 19, 2008
There we are, one hour of heart thumping music, 30 bodies pedaling the Spinner bikes to the same cadence, power, passion, intensity… and sweat. Therein lies the big difference, I SWEAT. Not glisten, perspire, moisten my epidermis; I SWEAT. Not a bead or a drop but a steady flow that rivals any river as it runs into the ocean.
Other people around me get humid, I get drenched. Why? Is it that I am just a powerhouse on the bike? That I dwarf the others in my crazy zeal to get a great workout? Or do I just sweat more than everyone else?
Sweating is just your body’s way of cooling itself off. How much you sweat depends on your gender, genetics, age, fitness level, and environment. Humans can have between 2 and 4 million sweat glands, determined by what you are born with. The greater the number of glands, the more you sweat.
-Women tend to sweat less because they are better able to regulate the amount of water they’re losing better than men and they begin to sweat at higher temperatures compared to men
-Fit people sweat more efficiently by sweating sooner in their workout, when their body temperature is lower
-Overweight people sweat more profusely than normal weight individuals because fat acts as an insulator that raises their core temperature
