Diary of a new class

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I started a new class at Mind Body Connection in Cooper City, a hot yoga class to be concise.  I love hot yoga because I love the heat, love yoga and the combination of the two if pure joy.  When I teach, however, it is not about what I love but rather what the studio wants and what [...]

Biceps Workout

Friday, June 13th, 2008

To get a really great biceps workout there are some factors to consider in your biceps workouts:

Don’t swing the weights
Stay in control of the eccentric and concentric movements
Make sure to get a full contraction at the top of each rep
Really squeeze the biceps and hold for a count of two before returning the weight to the starting [...]

No matter your age or condition, exercsie is excellent for your brain.  You’ve heard milk does a body good?  Now hear exercise does a brain good. Controlled studies have concluded (such as one in Neuromolecular Medicine),that exercise, specifically aerobic exercise, improves cognitive brain functioning. It has also been found to be especially beneficial for improving functions such as planning and working memory.

Sweat removes toxins better than any other process… so get to sweating!

The body is limited in the way that it can release toxins it is storing. The methods by which we eliminate toxins are defecation, urination, perspiration and respiration.  Perspiration is recognized by health practitioners worldwide as perhaps the most effective method of removing both difficult chemical and heavy metal toxins from the body.

Got Meditation?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I love to meditate and so I do not understand when people say it is a waste of time but it didn’t happen overnight.  It took a few months of doing it to learn to slow down and enjoy being still.
A problem I think with getting people to want to try meditation is that the [...]

I Spin everyday and I am in pretty good shape but someone said I need “Muscle Confusion”. Huh?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Spinning is a fantastic exercise program because anyone can do it, all levels can ride in one class, the elements are of no consequence and it’s fun.  The downside, no one exercise activity is enough to keep you balanced.  Spinning for instance is leg intensive.  Most of the activity is done while you pedal a [...]

Yogic Thought for the Day: Lift Someone Up

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Today I started my day at the underpass of the expressway for the workout I recently blogged about and it was a killer!  That, however is the topic of another upcoming blog which will be titled, “The Princess and the Bridge.”  I digress, after a great workout I stopped off at the bank located inside [...]

Now here is a useless fitness innovation

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Okay, so I was doing a search to see what new and exciting gizmos and gadgets were out there in cyber space and I found what has to be the oddest fitness accessory: The Digital Dream Sportsman sports camera.

Is there truth to the finding that red wine and resveratrol are good for your heart?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Most people would love to find a reason or perhaps an excuse to have a glass of wine on a regular basis. The latest report on red wine says it is, in fact, good for your heart because of something called resveratrol.  Red wine is linked especially with reducing the risk of heart disease. While the news [...]

Workout under the bridge/ highway ramp

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Okay, this one is unorthodox, I admit it. When you have worked out in the gym and around the parking lot and through the parks, you start to think about new ways to challenge yourself and others.  A few months ago I was at Markham Park in Weston, Florida and saw some people walking up [...]
