More drama in Spinning

By Christina | June 3, 2008

After my Sunday morning Spinning class chaos (see previous blog) I was sure I would not see another flaring of tempers in a class for a while.  Of course, I was wrong.  Tuesday morning I walk into my 830am Spin class and find all the bikes have a towel on them - this indicates that someone has come and saved a bike for themselves while they perhaps walked out to use the restroom.  The truth be told what it typically means is that someone walked in and saved four bikes for his or her friends so that they can all ride close to one another.

This practice of saving bikes upsets members to no end especially when they are pre-registered to ride and there are no free bikes.  I walked in and started chatting with a good friend who announced to me that she was saving two bikes for her friends. Ugh, no! I let her know she could not save bikes for friends and that she was in breach of policy and I figured, no hoped, no one would know so I looked the other way.  In walks trouble!

A member walks in and states she is taking the bike my friend was saving.  The fight was on.  The “saver” declared the bikes were saved, the ”taker” was having none of it.  She threw the towel on the floor and got on the bike.  Sadly for her, the bike she confiscated was broken unbeknownst to all so she had to move to another bike, with a towel perched atop it.  The music started and lo and behold another member walked in and directly to the latest conquest.  The “tardy” rider said she was in the bathroom and that was her bike.  Now they are both looking at me saying, “fix this.”  WOW, really? Okay, I put one member on my instructor bike and I danced, jumped and sang through the ride.

After class, of course the drama was not over and it was not enough that I gave up my bike and everyone got to ride. Nope, the “taker” had to let me know how improperly I handled the situation because I did not support her from the beginning.  WHATEVER!

Time for kickboxing, at least then I would get a workout, no reserved spots, no limits on space, just a great cardio workout. Wrong one more time, the stereo was broken. What a day!

OH NO!!! Poor thing, people do not think that our jobs get stressful, but from all of the running from gym to gym and making sure you are ontime and helping the newbies in time to start class and trying to format a class where you regulars aren’t rolling there eyes bc it’s not hard enough today or someone GOT THEIR SPOT!! ha ha! Hope things will be better your next class!! Hang in there!!
