Weekly Meditation - Serenity

By Christina | April 21, 2008

I read a quote, “Nothing in all creation is so like God as stillness.” Meister Eckhart c. 1260-c.1327) Stop and think about that.  Is that the first time today you have stopped to just think?  If it is you are in need of some serious serenity and stillness.

The face of a baby, an angel, tranquil clear blue water, these images conjure up feelings of stillness and serenity for me and so as I try to sit quietly for a few moments (I say try because this does not come easy to me) I think about angels, about my baby daughter’s smile, the feeling I get when I look out at the clear blue ocean in the morning before anyone is out.  This time allows me to create an inner space where my conscious mind drifts in and out. This peace I bring myself helps me to bring peace to others.

Try this meditation technique:

Sit comfortably in a quiet place, ideally you will not be distrurbed for as long as you like.  Unplug (or turn off) your telephone and hide away.  Light a candle and place it about eye level and allow yourself to focus on it.  (Make sure there is nothing that may catch fire anywhere near by and if you feel you might fall asleep use a flameless candle.)  Breathe in and out slowly allowing your physical body to relax completely.  Relax your mind as well, let go of any inner tensions.  Watch the dancing flame, let that be your only focus, your only thought.

Think about what you equate with serenity. Visualize it. Feel as if you are immersed in this place where your cares cannot follow you and you have peace as well as stillness.  Stay here for as long as you like.
