I am leaving on a 3 week vacation and am worried I will not workout, can you help?

It is a great idea to keep your wellness routine going even while you are on vacation.  It will be a much easier to transition back to your regular activities if you have not deviated too far off the mark while you are gone for almost a month! There are many ways to keep up your workouts as well as your healthy eating habits while you are on vacation.  I will address the fitness issues and workout ideas since that is what you requested but know that there are always healthy choices and be mindful of your portions while you are away.

Walking is a great exercise and one you will probably do on a vacation.  Look for tours that included walks, hikes, bike rides, etc to incorporate physical fitness as part of the fun.  Walk to breakfast, lunch and/ or dinner instead of taking a cab or car. Not only is this beneficial for your fitness but you also see more of the sights this way as well.  Walk up the stairs of your hotel or attraction instead of taking the elevator.  If you are staying on the first floor, take the stairs anyhow just for fun.  Race the kids up the stairs, make it competitive and get them accustomed to exercise while on vacation.

Grab an exercise band at your local sports shop before you leave on vacation.  These bands come in a variety of difficulty levels and weigh virtually nothing.  They take up minimal space in your suit case and are easy to use anywhere.  If you have never worked with an exercise band, pick up a DVD or hire a trainer for a few sessions so that you know how to use them and have a full body workout ready to go.  The bands can be used for strengthening shoulders, biceps, triceps, chest, lats, quads, hamstrings, abs, as a tool to stretch, and even an aid for cardio circuits.

Just having the desire to workout while you are gone means you will probably going to be just fine. Don’t forget, many hotels have fitness facilities in them and that is another great tool to keeping the workouts going.  Good luck and please let me know how you did!
