Trainer Fun!
By Christina | April 17, 2008
I am now at 5 months post partum and am close to back in pre-pregnancy shape as far as the external body but it is amazing how hard it is to get back in shape where my cardio and strength are concerned. I worked out for the entire pregnancy and pretty hard at that but obviously not the same intensity as I did before.
I used to teach 3 classes back to back; weights, Spinning and kickboxing without missing a beat. I find now I can hardly get through my Spin and kickbox combo Tuesday mornings. To try and break the plateau I feel I am on I have started to workout with two friends from the gym, Beth, another trainer and Ryan who should be a trainer. We take turns picking an exercise and go for it. The next person has the task of trying to one up the last which can make for a really fun, really intense workout. This is an example for our workout last Wednesday morning:
- Frog Jumps across the basketball court (and back of course)
- Donkey kicks across the court (and back)
- Holding onto the ankles, lowering the hips, walk across the court (you guessed it… and back)
- Repeat the above
- Lateral hops across the court (and back)
- Lunges with dead lifts aross
- Plank with right arm, left leg lifted for 20 seconds each side - repeat 4 times
- Repeat the above
We finished the sets off with some leg presses, leg extensions, and leg curls for a pretty great cardio and strength workout. If you are experiencing a lull in your workouts or maybe have run out of new ideas try working out with some friends and get your workouts peppered with new ideas.
