BOSU, Step, Kickboxing, Weights, and Music = FUN
By Christina | March 23, 2008
I started a new class format recently at the fitness facility where I work and I have to tell you I love it! I am always trying to create new programming because it keeps me fresh and fun as well as in demand. If you create the program, you can run the class obviously. To date I have launched Colorgized Yoga, Colorgized Cycling, Meditation (I know that existed already but not at my gym), Aqua Yoga, Aqua Boot Camp and now this multi equipment, anything goes class.
I suppose you could call it boot camp in the studio since there is not an easier way to define it. Members are calling the class the hardest, most body altering class they have on the schedule. The class has no set pattern of choreography nor is there a cardio versus strength ratio that must be kept. It is simply instructor choice.
Last week I started with 10 minutes of Power Step moves, then balance work on the BOSU, on to some core strengthening exercises then kickboxing. At the conclusion of the first round we did it all again with some minor modifications. This week when I taught the class we pulled out the jump ropes for a 5 minute power cardio blast, walking lunges for 8 minutes (sounds easy but it’s not), we then did a series of planks using the BOSU ball and a super intense high impact cardio routine to some great oldies music.
The beauty is there is no stress over putting together hours of choreography or remembering anything. Just go! It’s physically demanding but mentally freeing which in addition makes the hour fly by. What ideas do you have for constructing a workout?
