Will Spinning (Indoor Cycling) Make My Legs Bulky?
By Christina | January 27, 2008
Although I have heard many people say their legs are big and bulky because of the Spinning classes, it simply is not true. The main reason this is not the case is because you are moving your legs the entire ride or hour as is usually the case. In a typical Spin class you increase and decrease resistance the whole time. The quick rotations leave the thighs and calves lean and sculpted. Just notice the next group of bikers you see on the road. How many have hugh massive legs? Not many.
As an instructor I can tell you I Spin on a very regular - three times a week basis - and I don’t have bulky legs and I do ride with high resistance. Spinning simply does not provide the resistance to fatigue necessary for bulk and overload that strength training does. If there were as much resistance in strength training as in a Spin, you would only be able to do a few minutes, never an hour.
