By Christina | November 1, 2007

You have heard that China is up and coming as an economy and force to be reckoned with in business but have you heard about the changes going on in their society and fitness?  A culture once known for being conservative is certainly changing and adopting some of the world’s practices.  Pole dancing as a fitness format is sweeping the nation.  Luo Lan, a 38 year old entrepreneur took a pole dancing class in Paris and was hooked.  She opened a class and is now known as the first in Beijing to teach pole dance, or as they call it, steel tube dancing.

The women, who work white-collar jobs, are dressed in high boots, hot pants and tight tops. They swing, swoop, shimmy on up and slide on down.

The new found affluence in China is allowing its residents to search for and enjoy activities which promote greater quality of life. These activities include yoga, bungee jumping, ballroom dancing and now pole dancing.
