Third Trimester Pregnancy Exercise

By Christina | October 26, 2007

That almost sounds like an oxymoron.  When I became pregnant back on March 9, I thought I can go the distance.  I can work out all the way through this pregnancy, no problem, I am after all an athlete.  Well, I recently heard someone say, “Man plans, God laughs.”  This applies to me right now.  I am 9 months pregnant, 24 days to go til the blessed event and I am lucky to do some weight lifting, a half spin class and certianly no kickboxing.  What happened to my gumption?  My get up and go?  My, I can teach til the day I deliver?  That’s out the door that’s where it is.  Even leading Group Exercise classes has become a chore.  People say, can’t you just stand there and teach?  Sure I could, but I don’t.  I can get through 2 back to back hours but by the third I am pretty beat. It is not so much the physical act of the class but I am standing by that time for three hours, there is some exercise because I have to demo the moves - Tuesdays for example I train a private client at 530am, teach weights class at 7am, Spinning at 830am and then kickboxing at 940am.  Under normal conditions this is tough but doable but at 9 months pregnant, it is unbearable.  Even cuing a kickbox class still requires some demonstration of the moves… I can say… “jab, cross, hook, upper cut, pivot knee, side kick and repeat and you know how many people might get it right?  Not many.  So, on top of having been “on” for three hours and motivating with words and movements, I have to still do a good part of the work and it is just impossible.

As another friend pointed out.. you are almost 40!  THANK YOU  I forgot the antiquity I have become.. Anyhow, 24 days to go, I do feel great, knock wood, and soon enough I will be touching my toes again, running past the people I train and lifting crazy weights but for one month and a few weeks, I will be happy to waddle my way through.
