MRSA staff infection is spreading through our schools

By Christina | October 23, 2007

It seems like a movie plot, a horror movie plot.  There is a staph bacteria that has started to spread through the high schools in our nation and what makes it so scary is that it is highly contagious and highly resistant to antibiotics.  The infection spreads from person to person through such simple actions such as sharing a cup, using the sports equipment as someone who has an abrasion or cut, or rubbing against an infected friend.

If unchecked or misdiagnosed, the infection spreads through the kidneys, lungs, liver and muscles surrounding the heart.  However vigilance goes a long way and of caught soon enough can be as easy to cure as a pimple or boil, says Cecelia Donohue, a spokesman for Iona College, where 10 student athletes have been infected.
