Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali
By Christina | September 20, 2007
Funny, I was recently asked if I had heard of the Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali… are you kidding? I am a yoga instructor, of course I have heard of the sutras. I was then called a nerd for knowing this information. I have to say, I have never been so happy to be called a nerd! It meant I knew something that seemed so foreign to someone else and I love knowledge so I thought I would share it with you…
The yoga sutras are the foundation, some would say, of yoga and its philosophy. They are related to the eight limbs of yoga and Ashtanga Yoga. You can read more about the Eight Limbs of Yoga in my article found at http://www.lifeorganizers.com/spirit-mind/what-is-yoga.html.Â
The sutras are not just the philosophical foundation of yoga but also clarify many of the common topics of Indian tradition such as karma and ahisma. Pantanjali is considered to be the author or representative of Yoga philosophy without necessarily being the author of the Sutras. Â
