New Help in the Event of a Stroke
By Christina | September 18, 2007
It is important to know the symptoms of a stroke so that in the event a stroke should occur you are prepared to identify and get help as quickly as possible. Every second counts in a life or death situation. Some common symptoms are:
- Numbness or weakness of the arms, legs and face, especially on one side.
- Sudden confusion and / or trouble speaking or understanding.
- Trouble seeing from one or both eyes.
- Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
- Severe headache with no cause
I received an email a day ago with an easy way to remember how to react in an emergency situation and rule out or consider the possibility of a stroke.
S - Ask the person to smile
T - Ask the person to talk or speak a simple sentence
R - Ask the person to raise both arms
By using the first three letters of the word stroke - STR - you have a quick reference check to get the help needed as quickly as possible.
