Get Extreme in Your Aqua Fitness Workout

By Christina | August 19, 2007

Aqua Boot Camp WorkoutI have been teaching group exercise since 1986 and have tried pretty much all types of classes. I have never been a big fan of aqua workouts mainly because the aqua at the facility I teach most of my classes for is pretty much a Silver Sneakers program, older population. Many of these prefer to socialize and there is a lot of talking going on. They are there to meet their physical and social needs and that’s great but I like to really push people and scream and be rather intense… it is not a great fit. Then came aqua boot camp, I love this. The group is mixed, some of the regular aqua folks come out and some younger people who usually steer clear of the regular “aquasize” because of the following routine we will follow today:

  • Warm up is a 6 lap swim (flotation devices available)
  • Tread water in deep end of pool (2 minutes)
  • Arms out of water, legs scissor kick (1 minute)
  • Legs stop, arms tread (1 minute)
  • Hold on to pool side lift and lower body completely arm extension (25 times)
  • Feet on side of pool, kick both back at the same time (50 times)
  • Out of Pool onto dry land:
  • Push ups 25
    Sit Ups 25
    Lunges 25

  • Repeat the circuit from the top
  • Kickboxing front and side kicks
  • Straight Jumps (50 times)
  • Stand in shoulder deep water, arms exercises:
  • Biceps/ Triceps (50 each)
    Shoulders/Back (50 each)
    Chest/ Back (50 each)

This workout is both intense and fun. It is for all levels but should be done with an intensity and focus like a boot camp class. Have fun.
