Aqua Yoga
By Christina | August 10, 2007
I am beyond excited about a new class format I thought of (not that I am the first).. aqua yoga. After my aqua boot camp class last week we did our stretches as usual and holding a hamstring stretch I realized that it was completely different from holding a stretch on land. The difference was the bouyancy from the water. Sounds obvious I know but until you experience something you cannot really appreciate it fully.
I went to my fitness director and she agreed I could start a new class format that no one in the area has done - Aqua Yoga launches at Midtown Club next Saturday. Some of the benefits I will describe to get participation from the members are:
- Comination of harmony of yoga and ebb and flow of water which are both healing
- Low stress so good for injured participants
- Water acts as a support, low risk of falling over in a pose so you can go deeper
- Resistance of water changes the focus of the pose
- Practicing in water puts us in touch with our deeper or hidden emotions (Jungian)
Sound interesting? I am psyched to start the program. Look for feedback, testamonials and yoga pose ideas as I start the program.
