These Aren't Your Mother's Label Makers!

Label makers have come a long way since their inception with the earlier models requiring superior hand strength in order for the imprint to be pressed onto the tape.  (There are some that will argue that carpal tunnel was a direct correlation from the use of such label makers!)

If you’re like most people, you have boxes filled with items that you probably didn’t even realize you still had!  But that can all change with the use of a label maker.

Tiffani Carr doesn’t seem to be your typical label maker (Brother P-Touch PT-80) user:  she’s just 24 years old and has a young daughter who at just one year’s old has body language which mimics the words “I can do it myself”. 

But Tiffani swears by the personal and professional use of her K-sun Label maker as she feels that the label maker enables her to maintain some sense of organization of her ever growing “stuff”.

For instance, at home, she uses the label maker to tag the seemingly endless collection of boxes of baby clothes that her daughter has yet to grow into.  And she labels her daughter’s baby bottles and baby food so that she has a better chance of these items being returned when she picks her daughter up from daycare.

At work, she uses the label maker to separate the catalogs on her vertical book cases into Potential Vendor Catalogs and Current Vendor Catalogs.  This cataloguing of catalogs also allows her colleagues to locate needed information in her absence.

As the creator of LIfeOrganizers.com and the COO of Cableorganizer.com, I feel that I’ve become somewhat of a connoisseur of label makers with a preference of the typewriter style keyboard.  My mantra is that everything has a place and I feel that the use of labels has a profound psychological influence on our attitudes about organization as it puts us in the right frame of mind like no other organizing technique.  In fact, the difference between a hand written label and a machine written label is huge.  People respect the machine label much more. And labels are just plain practical for every day usage in this wired society which requires cables and wires for each of your electronic devices. Long gone are the days “Honey, please tell me when the light goes off/on”.

Simply put, labels allow you to get the resources you need quickly and easily, without wasted time searching through junk drawers and mismanaged supply closets. And once you start organizing and labeling it allows you to take ownership of a project or challenge in a productive, positive way that can add to sense of accomplishment.
