When clutter destroys love!

By Mildred Munjanganja | November 13, 2009

When your clutter is what consumes your life, there is really no room for another love!

I have a friend who asked me why I think she is single – these are the thoughts I shared with her – I hope you find them helpful.

  1. My friend is too embarrassed to have company at her house.  She is very single and desperately wants to be in a relationship – however, every time we are in a car with a group of friends and eligible bachelors and give her call to tell her you will be swinging by she screams ‘my place is a mess!’ Her ‘mess’ is affecting her social life.
  2. I was watching an episode of Oprah where they featured obese people over 600 lbs – they talked about how they horde food and are ridiculed for their behavior – they could hardly leave their homes because they were held captive by their weight - yet we don’t hold the hording of clutter to the same standards.  Its almost equivalent to gluttony, except you re not eating your life away, you are building walls of clutter to imprison yourself.
  3. Clutter comes in many guises. Is this you? Can you find your keys? Do you know where they are right now? When was the last time you missed your laundry day? Are you down to your last pair of boxers before you do your laundry? This morning when you reached into the refrigerator, did you grab an expired tub of yoghurt? Have you ever not returned a friends call for a week because you couldn’t find your phone? Are consistently late for dates because you have to rummage through laundry and clutter to find something to wear?
  4. Clutter completely changes your mental state – if you wanted to wear your favorite ruby earrings from aunt Kathy but can only find one, then you are such a hurry to put yourself together that you forget to wear a tampon – your evening is ruined!!!

These are just a few points to ponder.  How is clutter affecting your love life?
