A Home Officer Who’s Ready to Give Thanks

By Jeff Zbar | November 25, 2008

A healthy family and well-adjusted kids.

A sturdy roof over our heads, and reliable, debt-free cars in the driveway.

Two careers that put money in the wallet and satisfaction in our souls.

That’s what we’re thankful for this holiday season.

To be sure, the financial markets give much cause for pause. Economists warn that 2009 will shape up to be a pretty lousy year, with the bumpy ride not expected to subside until 2010. It’s already reflected in my home-based business. Clients have slowed their orders, and some have slowed their payments.

But being an entrepreneur running a business from a home office means I’m in control of my enterprise. I may get pink slipped by some who can no longer afford my services, or “gray slipped” by those who cannot afford to send as much work my way as in times past, I’m still free to work the fields to reap whatever harvest there may be.

Certainly, harvests are lean this year, and next year, and maybe the next. But we have our health, a home and the vision that tomorrow — or next week, or next year — will come. And not one to harp on the negative, I believe a positive mental outlook and a focus on the fundamentals of business — staying organized and crystaline, productive and customer-centric, thankful for today and forward thinking about tomorrow — will help get us through all this.

And we will be here, ready to give thanks for all we have, today and tomorrow…
