The ‘Process’ of Business & Home Office Life
By Jeff Zbar | November 6, 2008
The wheel keeps on spinnin’ around. Turn the page. Time keeps on flowing, like a river…
Countless songs speak of the passage of time — the unstoppable, irreversible, never-ending chronological movement that is like sands through the hourglass.
Anyone with children need only look into their faces to see time in motion. As they age, they grow — maturing, changing, evolving from infant to child to young adult. We’re witness to that in my home office, where our three kids — 17, 14 and 11 — are proving to us how time is that irrepressible force.
I also see it in my writing business, where clients come and clients go. We mark time by the duration of those relationships, and how “business” evolves into friendship as lifecycle events are shared and milestones achieved.
We are here but for a short time. What we make of our days speaks to who we are and what our legacy will be. This is true for the family man, and the small business owner — and that person who is both at once.
And it is true when times are rich and robust, or as lean as a field seemingly gone fallow. Tough times create challenges that drive us to excel, to achieve, even to advance by small steps, sometimes — every day.
Amid it all, there they are — our children who seek our guidance, even without asking.
What will your legacy be? When you look in the mirror, when you look back on what you’ve created, done, accomplished and raised, will you be proud of those achievements?
Your legacy — in business, in parenthood, in life — begins today…
