No Time to Lose Focus in Home & Home Office
By Jeff Zbar | October 17, 2008
Times are tough. In business and life, in the home office and traditional workplace and the home itself, people are stressing over money, the economy, Wall Street and their investments, retirement accounts and college savings.
We’re not alone in the Zbar household. But what may be different is how we react.
Psychologists say people need to stay focused, keep informed with valuable and reliable information from trusted sources, and don’t panic. Certainly, opening any investment statement will not bear good news. But that’s no reason to shred them sight-unseen. Know your situation. Talk to your investment advisor (or spend time reading the opinions of trusted experts), and devise a strategy based on your individual situation.
In our household, we’re cutting back where possible. And in my home-based business, where client slow-downs have left me with idle time, I’m turning my focus to fresh projects and new business opportunities. I’m reaching out to old clients with new ideas. I’m resurrecting some past projects I let go fallow. I’m spending time organizing my workspace. Old files are being shredded or tossed, making for a rough day the next time the garbage men come to empty my cans.
And I’m envisioning how I can improve a dour — if not quite dire — situation.
Focus, determination, tenacity and passion will help smooth the rough edges of the economy for many people. Most of all, by not losing focus and straying from the target, you can be prepared to re-emerge on the other side stronger and better prepared for tomorrow.
Here’s to tomorrow…
