How Laptops Changed a Home Officer’s Life
By Jeff Zbar | September 28, 2008
OK, it’s a sad admission. But in our connected home, having an equally connected — and portable — home office makes for a productive and organized entrepreneur, and family.
If I want to work while watching TV in the evening, I just power up the HP tablet PC, hoist it on my lap, and multitask — watching NFL or (our fav) NHL CenterIce. I can write, work on projects, blog or otherwise get things done.
My kids need some guidance on homework (or a little cajoling from beside them in their bedrooms)? I just bring the laptop and play the albatross, I mean, involved and concerned parent watching over them.
I even keep the laptop at my bedside. If I awaken at 2am — not an uncommon occurrence, and I can surf a bit (speaking of sad admissions…).
Today was an ideal example. Sunday. The Sunday New York Times, coffee, breakfast — and my laptop. Sunday, lazy Sunday. A little blogging, some surfing, all in an example of portability.
Technology has enabled so much in the modern family. With a wireless network and a couple of laptop computers, we’re productive — no matter where we are in the home.
Even if I’m playing albatross — or night owl…
