Improving (or Improvising) Home Office Schedules & Organization
By Jeff Zbar | September 21, 2008
Why do my home office Sunday’s always resemble a week day? What, do I work in Israel, where the workweek begins on Sunday, and ends Friday afternoon?
No, but staying organized in my home office sometimes means balancing family and work — and that can mean my weekdays get cut short. Monday, I’ll leave at 5p to take Zack to hockey. Zoe has dance and softball. Nicole’s driving, but she has her responsibilities. And Robbie works.
Then there’s Tuesday. And Wednesday, and the rest of the week. Each day brings a new stable of must-dos that often snatch a bit of time from the 9a-5p schedule (truth be told, I don’t know the last time I worked 9-to-5; it’s more like 5a-5p, with some non-work obligations thrown in).
So here I sit, 6a on a Sunday, blogging about my wacky circadian rhythm, in search of balance. I’m demo’ing some new products (my latest find is the The Sanctuary power charging station from BlueLounge. It’s a home all sorts of power-hungry tech gear — with adaptors for up to 1,500 different products — MP3s, cell phones, data devices, GPSs and the like). Then I’ll write some video reviews for a client. Then I’ll work on my South Florida Business Journal marketing column for Monday.
Then, soon enough, it’ll be 9a, and the family will rise, and I’ll have to emerge from my den of productivity.
It’s OK. At least I’m not working from a corporate hive downtown.
Got your own wacky rhythms? Drop a comment. Let’s discuss…
