Great Family Fun: Learn to Scrapbook

By Christina | September 26, 2007

It seems every craft shop you walk into these days, has one.. a sign to help you learn “how to scrapbook”.  What is scrapbooking and why is it all the rage?  I believe it is a great way to document your memories in a creative, fun manner everyone in the family can partake in.  Scrapbooking allows you to take your precious pictures and momentos and put them into a creative expression of who you are.

Scarpbooking has been compared to storytelling but it is visual and tactile instead of orally focused.  When you begin, buy items that are applicable to your life.  You might see some very cute sailboats you want to buy but if nothing in your life applies to sailing, you may have a drawer full of cute knick-knacks you never utilize.

Scrapbook pricing can range from $10 to $100, be sure to decide your budget before you walk into the store so that your emotions don’t get carried away leaving you with a bad start to the experience.  Once you have your supplies and you are ready to sit down and start to scrapbook, plan your ideas.  Lay out the pictures, messages, journaling, items and whatever else you will include in the format and order you will place them in.  This will save you a lot of remove and repaste and possible damage to your book.

Don’t tale it too serioulsy either, learn to have fun with your new found hobby.  Make it something that brings you pleasure and peace, never stress.  Don’t set deadlines or hold your self to a Martha Stewart standard if you are not naturally “craft” inclined.
