Mind Body and Spirit are One
By Christina | August 24, 2007
Do you feel like you need to be busy all the time? This is a common problem in our society, we value productivity over meditation and relaxation. Yes, we need to be able to contribute to society and to be productive so we can feed ourselves, house our families and not be a burden to society but so we need to do it 24 hours a day?
In yoga or many other types of mind and body practices, we strive to slow down and focus on our inner selves. We encourage the cessation of thought and learning to filter everything out so that we are able to listen to our inner voice, our intuition. In a typical yoga or meditation class I will ask, how often to you just sit, close your eyes and exist? This is the only way to truly understand ourselves and our needs. It is the only way to learn what is best for us as we look to make decisions in our lives. All of our answers reside within us, we just need to reach out and hear the voice and then trust the voice.
I know how hard this is because my own life, although vastly filled with joy and happiness is chaotic on a slow day. My standard schedule is wake up at 4am, get going to work by 5, teach a minimum of 4 exercise classes a day coupled with writing articles and blogs and more than that, thinking of ways to improve my jobs or myself and writing notes. I am always on the cell phone, I have a mind and body business called Spectral Journeys and as if that is not enough, I am a mom to a 10 and a 12year old and at 39 am now 6 months pregnant. I would not change any of it for the world but is there really much “me time”? No. I do need to practice what I preach and get to a yoga class I do not teach, take a walk alone and get in touch with my thoughts and feelings.
Take time today to be still and get to know you… ask yourself, What do I want? Who am I? What are MY dreams?
Namaste.
