A rummage sale is a great way to weed out things you no longer use, while getting those things into the hands of people who WILL use them. Of course, you get to make some money at the same time!

Don't underestimate what you can sell at a rummage sale. I held a sale last year, and I was able to sell, among other things, half a bottle of shampoo I no longer wanted to use, a laptop computer that was as old as the hills and a broken blender--of course I noted that the blender was broken--the person who bought it said he enjoys tinkering with old appliances! Who would have thought?

If you don't have enough clutter to have your own rummage sale, team up with some friends.

A neighbor of mine recently held a multi-family rummage sale. A bunch of us brought our stuff to this neighbor's house, we assisted her with the sale, and then we all went home with less clutter and some extra pocket money.

I was able to sell things like an infant car seat, toys, lots of kids clothes, outdoor lawn chairs and much more.

During the last hour of the rummage sale, we announced a 50% off deal. You wouldn't believe how much that announcement emptied our tables!

Save Time Getting Ready for Rummage Sales

Rather than marking separate prices on each of your rummage sale items, use the Color Coding Price System.

Get round, removable, multi-colored stickers. Designate a different price for each sticker--everything with a red sticker costs 50 cents, green costs one dollar, yellow costs 3 dollars and blue costs 5 dollars.

Then, simply place one of these round colored stickers on each of your small ticket rummage sale items. Of course, you'll have to individually price your more expensive items.

Finally, hang a large sign that shows the colors and the prices that go with each.

It will be a lot easier on you, and rummage seekers will be able to see what your items cost at a glance.
